W00t!

Not a computer yet, and SOMEONE stole the corner window desk, but I have a desk and I have things on it and I can look out of the window and I HAVE AN OFFICE.

Also have bread cooking and washing washing. Cos I am productive like that. Fear me. Now I have a desk, I'm UNSTOPPABLE.

Ok, so, where were we?

On Saturday we went to the Hurling (sunny, open air stand, much shouting at referees, good times) and then the pub was open and full and happy so I went in to warm up and then time passed and it was late and I was drunk. Ooops.

Sunday it rained, I levelled up a combat level in Runescape and then we went to see X-Men again. :D

This week has been mainly counting the invisible wiggly worms. Cross-eyed now. >.<

And tonight I'm attempting to chicken and leek pie again. This time I will overcome.

1. Pubs are open on Bank Holiday Monday.

2. DIY places, not so much.

I will try again this afternoon.

Today's to-do list consists of:
1. Fix the sink
2. Ask the internet why my radiator is leaking and solve it
3. Cook Thai Red Curry
4. Do the ironing (hopefully with a silly afternoon film somewhere, possibly in black and white - if the fates love me enough).

Days of Holiday remaining on contract: 4
Weeks of contract left to run: 1
Result - Treehugger gets ALL the days off.

:D

Well, not quite all the days. But pretty close! Today, Monday and next Friday. Yay!

Tis a good thing, as BigSis is arriving this evening for an Irish holiday weekend and I need to prepare. There's not that much left to do, I've ironed the bedding, made the bed (HOW HARD ARE DOUBLE BEDS TO MAKE? Seriously. Why on EARTH do people sleep in them? Apart from the obvious of course). I've hoovered (will hoover again just in case) and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen.

Today there will be making of lasagne and bread. The lasagne for when we get back tonight, a quick re-heat and DINNER! Woohoo.

But there will be lots of resting. Lots and lots. Because it became clear this week that I am BONE tired. Every single thing I had to do this week was just too much effort. However, after last night's early night and this morning's lie-in I already feel a little more perky. With lots of sitting down on and off (and maybe a nap) I should be ready/willing/able for the weekend of fun planned ahead. And have enough energy to whip up an acceptable amount of excitement.

Weather looks pretty good though. Fingers crossed.

The brain, not satisfied with doing analytical chemistry all day, decided it wanted to cook. And that it wanted to cook a chicken and leek pie specifically. I'm through with arguing. I just made sure that the ingredients shopping included a bottle of wine (some of it was needed for the food admittedly) and went along for the ride.

So far I have achieved the goop that goes into the pie. Next stage is the un-rolling of the frozen pastry stuff. Cooking really is quite relaxing with Beethoven on and a glass of wine and kettle chips to snack on. I should do this more often.

And I can always have a philly and ham sandwich with the remains of the philly if it all goes wrong.

ETA: Ok. That thing I just did with the pastry, that was the WORST thing anyone has ever done with the pastry. Ever. Maybe I should have mentioned that I'm also cooking because I came home early (1/2 hr early - not proper slacking odd). And why did I come home early? Because I had just made up the standards completely wrong due to a stupid error in multiplying/dividing the volumes of matrix/standard/internal std.

Maybe cooking wasn't the best idea.

ETA 2: The man is back under the sink again. With an adjustable wrench this time. And less groaning. Should I offer him pie? That is the question indeed.

(I wore my StarWorms T-shirt today. May The Fourth Be With You! Had to educate a LOT of science folk into the true nature of geekery. I don't think they will ever look at me the same way again. Is kinda good though, a four month grace period was long enough.)

Having worked the official weekend, I then spent the entirety of my one day weekend (also known as the bank holiday) not doing all the many things that weekends are for, but instead writing fic. All day. Trust me, you guys should be thankful to [personal profile] sweetsyren, because without her I wouldn't even have remembered to eat.

Anyway. I then couldn't face turning Donal on last night to do edits or anything so I spent the evening doing washing/baking bread/doing a big shop/finally dealing with the washing up. So now I have clean clothes, a fridge full of edible things and a clean kitchen. Life be good.

Oh and I watched Star Trek III, The Search For Spock while I was doing all the many things. How slashy is that towards the end?

And as a reward I had Olivia Williams and Rupert Graves. Mmm. Well done ITV. And I don't say that often.

Great news no?

Yesterday was so productive. Took the bike apart, cleaned the bike, oiled the bike, put the bike back together. Poor Festus, such an afront to his dignity. Seems ok (apart from the minor problem of no brake pads) but I shall talk to some biking folk about the small grinding noises here and there in the bearings. I think some of them were already there, so I'm not fretting too much.

Also, as the weather didn't rain like it said it would I washed various bags of ming, towels of ming and hotwater bottle covers of ming. Big bags of ming were hung out on the line all day to air.

There is NOTHING left that smells of Ming! (I think). This is a most satisfactory state of affairs.

Rounded off the day with cooking the delicious Chicken Caserole for Didactylos and the folks. Mmmm, tasty foods. Forgot to put the pie for desert in whilst cooking, but it was ok. We were so stuffed from the itty bitty rosemary roastie potatos that everyone was perfectly willing to wait while it warmed up.

And bless him, Ronnie O'Sullivan provided dinner entertainment by winning. Yay Ronnie! So sorry you have to play Ebdon next. Please don't strangle him with your cue for being so terribly slow.

Weekend, in order of appearance.

1. Haircut.
Achieved. Result acceptably short n fluffy. Cute and Perky effect lasts all of 5 mins until hairstyle introduced to the ubiquitous Yorkshire breeze. Cheering effect lasts all day.

2. Mature Adult type behaviour.
Shopping done (brie on offer. Mmmmmm tasty lunch foods). Chicken purchased and chicken recipe wrangled out of online folks. Washing done and hung out.

3. Exercise
Cycled up and round and along and up some more and dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown and then UP THE RUDDY GURT HILL by the Cemetery and then up the last bit of hill and home. Yay. Go me.

4. Cookery
Chicken stuffing made. Chicken trussed and introduced to oven along with baked potato. Roasting occurred.

5. Unexpected events.
Rude and intrusive broken glass during washing up necessitated a trip to A&E (paranoid TH is paranoid). [Chicken had just finished cooking so no problem there] X-ray revealed no glass left in finger (I got make a rude gesture at the technician). Wiggle tests revealed no important muscles severed. TH bandaged up (steri-strips) and on the way home in time to catch the second half of Cold Case with reheated chicken.

6. Cookery (reprise).
Chicken was AWESOME.
Washing up is hard when finger must not be wetted.

7. Mature Adult type things (reprise).
No news about the job yet. Hoping they're taking this weekend to read all the applications and I might therefore hear next week.

So, parents back this afternoon. In their absence I have:

1) Written/prosed 10 pages of sketched fic, edited 16,000 words and finally managed to post the DoctorWho Crackfic Crossover thus enabling the watching of the 11th Doctor season.

2) Written 1 drabble and 1 vignette (both still need editing).

3) Written the opening paragraphs of a stalled chapter (opening paragraphs are always my bugbear).

4) Edited two pages of the 1940s AU so that it actually flows (might get even more of that done this afternoon).

5) Missed three lunches and worn out each and every wrist joint I own in the pursuit of same.

6) Cooked various messes of potage of the tasty variety including an excess of chilli.

7) Drunk the very nice bottle of red my aunt left as a thank you for looking after her over two months ago.

8) Drunk the very nice bottle of homebrew my friends left for me at my birthday BBQ.

9) Eaten an excess of Pizza and watched a goodly chunk of my Lovefilm Urgent List.

10) Stayed up late and slept in for no reason other than there was crap on TV and I had an idea.

Not bad for two weeks eh? *sigh* Welcome home folks.

A very relaxing "do-nothing" time was had.

On Friday evening I finagled Pizza by slipping off to drink a beer and then sit in a park with Didactylos (thus getting home too late for tea and having to make my own.... ooops). Whilst wandering round said park we got to rescue a little boy's football from the river. This was a good thing and our karma bonus was only slightly depleted by the fact it fell into the river cos we hadn't stopped it earlier as it dribbled past us.

Then Saturday I dragged my eyes open at 8am to sit in bed and talk to Australia for an hour and a half. Work work work... :D

Staying in bed all day wasn't really an option )

and thank you Didactylos for lending me Going Postal, I REALLY needed to read it.

Tonight I went swimming. Legs hate me but I have exercise pride. :D
