Sunny

Morning folks.
In an aim to be able to get up early this week to swim or cycle before work (different days - I'm not THAT energetic!) I've been getting up at 5:30 this weekend (it's only half an hour earlier than usual, not too much of a shock to the system). Yesterday it worked out OK, I got to head out on my long training ride nice and early before there was any traffic. And the sun is up then, so I'm enjoying lovely bright morning.
But today is a rest day so I've been up for two and a half hours, I've had breakfast, I've tidied the front room, I've weeded half the back yard and I'm just settling down to coffee and toast before starting the actual "day" part of the day. And it's only just coming up to 8am.

*sigh*

The cycle ride was good yesterday tho. 35 miles, lots of lovely back country lanes through the flat bit of Wharfedale (v rich agricultural bit, excellent hedges, good grass). The hills were AWFUL. I had to get off and breathe 3 times going up the East Chevin Road. It's a 12% and my legs are NOT strong enough for that yet. Feels OK now tho. Good recovery. Good legs.

Drizzle Again. Meh.
What does the sun look like, huh?
I do not have joy.

Is it ever going to stop raining?

It's been pretty much nonstop for 2 days now. Living on the harbour quay is starting to look like less of a good idea. Mind you, I am on the second floor. The river is going to have to rise a ruddy bit more before it invades my front room.

In other news, today I finally wrote the abstract for the conference in Italy next summer (it's a hard life being a scientist). It includes the words "inherent in the method" ("Come and see the violence inherent in the system!") though I doubt that will last through to the final draft. I also spent a generous amount of time enabling [personal profile] sweetsyren in building an SPN/Avengers crossover sandbox and playing in it with much imagination.

*rubs last of the rain out of hair and sends a prayer to the weather gods for some dry days*

Not completely indifferent to the season's changing

Heh, Autumn is coming. Things smell different already. It's odd how everything changes at this time of year. I don't quite need the SAD light yet, but I can feel it looming over the horizon. Luckily it's coming over next week, hopefully the Earth's orbit will not tilt too far before then.

I have such a love/hate relationship with this time of year. Everything is so real and multi-dimensional. Seeing, feeling, smelling all connect at such a deep level that everything hurts that it's so beautiful. I want to hold onto everything, take it inside me and clutch it tight forever. It's as though my brain KNOWS it's going to not feel anything for 6 months and is going crazy trying to experience things before the portcullis falls.

If I hadn't already had my seizure I'd call this the warning period. Everything seems the wrong way round this year.

I got very rained on cycling home

But on the plus side, I did count ALL the invisible wiggly worms today. 60 tubes of wiggly worms counted. Boo-Ya.

And I'm making curry.

In my impartial view, I win the day. :D

Invisible Wiggly Worms And You

Oh boy, never have I been so glad of a weekend. The invisble wiggly worms seemed never ending this week. Today it got so dreary we were laying bets on how many there would be in each tube. I lost. Pretty regularly.

Ah well, it's over now. The weekend is ahead and it's finally stopped raining (wet cycle this morning was wet, cycle clothes had to be sneaked into the dryer before I could bear to put them back on again).

And now it's time for Quantum Leap. This week Sam is a woman. S'gonna be brilliant.

Ah, the joys of an Irish summer

Got HAILED on on the way home. And let me tell you internets, air-flow vents in a helmet are all very well for head cooling but they do NOTHING against big lumps of ice. NOTHING.

As Caesar himself said: "Infamy, Infamy! They've all got it in for me!"

Oh, and I saw X-Men:First Class. :D There is not enough squee in the world to express my opinion on that film. The Slash! The Fassbender! The Wolverine!

I have told the tax people where I live

I have told the phone people where I live (they don't believe me and are waiting for the bank to tell them tis so).

I have an iced coffee (first one of the season! Woot!) a load of washing drying on the airer and bread rising in the bread maker.

Mood: Productive.
Location: In shorts.

I do love a day off

Days of Holiday remaining on contract: 4
Weeks of contract left to run: 1
Result - Treehugger gets ALL the days off.

:D

Well, not quite all the days. But pretty close! Today, Monday and next Friday. Yay!

Tis a good thing, as BigSis is arriving this evening for an Irish holiday weekend and I need to prepare. There's not that much left to do, I've ironed the bedding, made the bed (HOW HARD ARE DOUBLE BEDS TO MAKE? Seriously. Why on EARTH do people sleep in them? Apart from the obvious of course). I've hoovered (will hoover again just in case) and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen.

Today there will be making of lasagne and bread. The lasagne for when we get back tonight, a quick re-heat and DINNER! Woohoo.

But there will be lots of resting. Lots and lots. Because it became clear this week that I am BONE tired. Every single thing I had to do this week was just too much effort. However, after last night's early night and this morning's lie-in I already feel a little more perky. With lots of sitting down on and off (and maybe a nap) I should be ready/willing/able for the weekend of fun planned ahead. And have enough energy to whip up an acceptable amount of excitement.

Weather looks pretty good though. Fingers crossed.

Longday is long.

Loooooong. Sunny and nice but long. And I'm more than glad of my nail brush tonight. Ooooh, I'm tired. Very tired in the arms we are. Oh yus. And a bit wind blown.

But we found the elusive brown podzolic! Just the one.

(the exhausted emoticon should be more happy. I'm happy. It's just that my arms don't work no more)

Soily Soily Soil...

Today I have mostly been digging holes[1] in fields with cows in, fields that have had cows in and fields that will have cows in soon. There were a LOT of holes.

We saw 6 bulls. Two bulls saw us.

And we still never found a brown podzolic. *sigh* Good job the weather was awesome :D

Now we shall go for foods. Tasty foods. I have deserved foods. (I was allowed an ice-cream on the way home for being a good worker. Yay ice-cream)

[1]Very small holes. Which we filled in again immediately after. We're very careful about that. Once we're done you'd never know we'd been there.

Just to say, being in the field is pretty awesome

Today I got to play with two sheepdog puppies. Not teeny puppies, more like leggy teenage puppies. So engaging! So in love with me. My boss said we couldn't keep them, even though one of them was pretty much attempting to crawl inside my clothes. *sadface*.

Boy was it hot. Suntans a gogo! A lovely day to lie around in the grass and poke soil. The scenery wasn't bad either.

To top it all off, when we went out to eat tonight, my after-dinner coffee came with the teeniest bottle of milk. Small but perfectly formed. Happy times.

I went to a Hurling Match. It was AWESOME

Violence and running around and short shorts and very fast paced play and wow. I LOVE this game. Only wish I had known this when I was a young un. I'm a bit to old to enjoy getting twatted about the hands/shins by a slab of wood. The sun shone and it was a lovely day. Has been a pretty awesome weekend all round yesterday. One teeny rain shower, but that meant I was forced to stay in and unpack the box marked "photos". Found some from my Masters and our trip to Venice. I'd forgotten any had been taken! Good memories.

Live games are definitely better than tv. There was shouting. Encouragement of course! Though the odd moment of abuse might have slipped out. I blame it on the Hot Thermos of Coffee with a Wee Dram slipped into it.

In the lull, halfway through the second half, I had a terrible urge to yell "YOU'RE A W***ER NUMBER NINE". But I resisted it. Didn't think anyone but me would find it funny.

Oh, and Wexford lost. Of course. Ah well.

This coming week is St Paddy's Day. We get the day off! Currently feeling very Irish.

Things happen! Is Exciting!

I threw a housewarming and only one person came. Obviously I fail at social gatherings. On the plus side, all your wine/nibblies/leftover baby muffins are belong to us.

There has been such unpacking. Let me tell you internets. On Wednesday I unpacked my DVDs and found at least half a dozen I hadn't remembered buying. BONUS HOT FUZZ FTW!!! On Thursday I had people over (little TH's first dinner party!) and good times were had. On Friday I found my DVD player (W00T!) and also built a bookcase. Pressing in the nails that hold on the back panel with the flat blade of a screwdriver due to lack of a hammer was Not Fun(tm). On Saturday I went jogging with some peeps (mainly to be sociable and see the pretty nature reserve), acquired an empty low sided fruit box from Aldi, filled it with books and slid it under the bed (books cropped up a LOT in my unpacking) and threw the aforementioned housewarming.

Today I have officially done nothing. TH has a tired. She would be sunning herself in the flat except Ireland has decided to have a freezing cold day with clouds making everything manky grey. So there is coffee shop wifi and hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Can't Stop Blathering...

Having brilliant time with [personal profile] sweetsyren, watched "How To Tame Your Dragon" last night. Everyone together now... awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Today the sun is shining (shhhh, don't scare it away again) so there may even be venturing outside into the great blue room. TH wants to see The River.

Monday. Morning. Rain.

All hail the trinity of Bleh.

Woke up this morning to the sound of the Royal Mail van spinning his tires violently outside the house. Got up, found clothes, put clothes on (in the dark, hence top half on inside out as I discovered later), found waterproofs, put waterproofs on. By the time I got outside he'd finally figured out the whole "DON'T REV IT!!!" solution and stopped sliding into all the parked cars on the street. So he didn't need pushing.

I stayed up though to make sure the paternal unit could get the maternal unit's car out and onto the top road, riding up with him with the grit/salt and mini shovel for rescue purposes. Then we walked back. Did I mention the rain?

Understandably I then went back to bed.

Two hours later and it's still raining.

Like I said, Bleh.

I did get back.

At 2am.

After having to change planes and other exciting things. Oh they were exciting.

Anyway, I'm home, I'm tired, but there's underfloor heating and the view (snow, snow and more snow) is magnificent.

Hopefully I'll be more comprehensible after I sleep.

Snow is awesome

Due to nervous drivers I have been asked to Ride Shotgun With A Shovel (have you heard my new folk/country band?).

So I have blazing fire, Baileys and interwebs.

HURRAH FOR ARCTIC WEATHER CONDITIONS!!!

er, yeah, so.... Snow happened.

Wow.

That is really all I can say about that. Though if pressed I could go a little further I suppose. If pressed.

Monday: It has snowed! TH and the students respond in time honoured manner by:
a) Doing little/no work
b) Going for a walk to look at the pretty (including standing on lake until it cracked and marvelling at the 2cm thick ice.
c) Building a 6ft tall phallus complete with testicles.

Tuesday: It has snowed again! TH and the students respond in time honoured manner by:
a) Doing little/no work
b) Complaining about the cold.
c) Building a "Mr T" snowman, complete with mohawk, biceps and medalion. (the snow was wetter and more sculptable).

Students were requested to remove items from the phallus so that it looked a little less realistic. They did so. Snow sculpture was still pretty obviously what it was.

Anyone still reading? )

Oh, and the snow/perfect peace on Sunday meant I finally got the chapter of fic finished that I've been battering at for almost 3 years now. There are no words for the glee. No words.

And now I have wine. And Wifi. A great combination.
