I have now watched the first 5 Eps of Doctor Who (eleven)
So, what do I think so far?
Episode 1: The Eleventh Hour
Don't like the theme tune, Moffat writes good parts for kids, TEETH?!!. We like Rory - he drives a mini. Have been told the actress-playing-Amy's knowledge of the character gets better with time, am hopeful for the future (catapults!).
Episode 2: The Beast Below
Torchwood Space Whale!
Text to Syren reads: "Star Whale! Like Torchwood but less meaty" :D
Again with the kids Moffat? Do you want to break my heart? We like the Queen. Oh yus. Was a bit circle of Ood (hear the poor creature's song) but less good. Nice parallel between "old creatures who like children" but unfortunately RUINED by the hammer of EXPLANATION and HUGGING that was the last 2 minutes. That could have been cut.
Episode 3: Victory of the Darleks
Watched this soon after "The Blind Banker". British shows and tea? Genius. They make models of those Daleks in dull army green with uniform belts, right? Cos I need one very badly.
Churchill needed a slap. Poor WAAF, needed a huggle. This dialogue was definitely written for Donna ("Oi Churchill" - lol) which was a little distracting (why doesn't she remember the Daleks - don't answer that!)
SPACESHIP BEHIND THE MOON! - Someone's been watching Independence Day. The least said about the Mighty Morphin Power RangerDarleks the better. "Broadsword calling Danny Boy" BEST CALL-SIGN EVER. *made a note to dig out her copy of "Where Eagles Dare"
CRACK?!!!
Episode 4: The Time of Angels
River Song has GREAT shoes. River Song is awesome. And she Curtseys! Wow. Airlock. Takes some balls to have that much confidence in your knowledge of the Doctor. Have I mentioned how much I love her?
Brain kept shouting that the Bishop/Captain had been hot in something recently. Eventually remembered it was in Lara Croft (that someone STOLE from me). "My ignorance amuses me". Not really all that recent then. Still hot though. His voice was VERY distracting.
Radiation! Doesn't that make the Doctor dance?
Angel Bob.
So glad I already had the second part recorded. Just refresh the booze and I'll be back (*makes weeping angel motions into the hall mirror whilst grimacing "BOOZE" and frightens the cat*)
(The machine had picked up some confidential - River song kneed him in the goolies when she landed in the Tardis. Hearing Matt say "knackers" made the night)
Episode 5: Flesh and Stone
Crack?
River Song is amazing. And nice and explanatory at the same time. She's the one who remembers that people who are not the Doctor have fear and uncertainty. She's the one who just does the normal human things of a quick encouragement, a soft touch to remind confused and frightened folk that it'll be ok. With her there I can cope with the fact there's no Donna. All those years in ER paying off.
I would have shot that bit when Amy has to keep her eyes closed in darkness/with those dribbling lights you see on the inside of your eyelids when you look into light with eyes shut. Because for all the "aloneness" you don't get the total petrifying effect of NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE. We are a sighted species, use our eyes a hell of a lot. So yeah - I would have shot it like that.
Is it just me or is this Doctor a little "I must sacrifice myself for the universe"? Doctor - River Song said it herself. You're more useful to us alive!
I love that at the end River Song was all "I know more than you and I might be evil" to the Doctor, but "goodbye Amy" all kind and gentle. I trust her.
That bit at the end? AMY! Have some ruddy decorum!
